Six Basics to completing a service learning project: (adapted from Peace Jam Foundation: Leaders Guide 2007)
1) Identify an Issue
2) Research the Issue from Multiple Perspectives
3) Create an Action Plan
4) Do the Service Project
5) Reflect on the project and make improvements
6) Celebrate Accomplishments
Service Projects I have done: This section needs a description of a minimum of two service projects in which I have served and a photo from each. The descriptions should tell when and why the project was done, describe what was done, my role in the project, and should include information about outcomes from project completion. For the ease of my reader, I should provide an appropriate title each service project as well.
Service Project Proposal: This section should have a real or proposed project where I address how I handled, or would handle, meeting each of the six basics to completing a service learning project.
Reflections: This section is used for writing a reflection about my personal growth or value addd to the community from doing service leadership projects. I may write more reflections if I wish, but each should be numbered. Each reflection should be a paragraph in length (four sentences minimum). It should demonstrate deep thought as to how I predict service leadership will add value to my education.
Important!!!! Remember: Do Not Include (for the purpose of internet safety) o Never include your last name o Never include your home address, phone number, e-mail, social networking info, social security number or student ID o Never include your schedule or other personal information that could give hints to where you will be at specific times o Never put a photo of just you, and never include the names of students in your photos.
